Use Money Wisely

We can use money wisely.  While some have taken the view that money is evil it is the love of money which is evil.

Being Controlled

No one likes to be controlled and yet at times many of us put ourselves in positions where we are being controlled even if we may not realize it.  While allowing yourself to be controlled by something or someone you may take actions that would otherwise counter your better judgement.

In the example of money, we can allow ourselves to become so interested in accumulating money to the point that we think of little else.  Possibly to the point of compromising some values we have in place for the sake of making more money.  Thus, our own better judgement may take a back seat to the accumulation of money.  Hence, we would be controlled by this pursuit of money.

Jesus stated it like this, according to the Luke 16:13 of the English Standard Version Bible (ESV), “No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

If you struggle with being controlled by something, be it the love of money or something else we surrender ourselves to, you may feel powerless to escape its pull.  The Bible specifically addresses this by identifying Jesus as the means to freedom from such a prison.  According to Acts 13:38-39 (ESV), “Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,  and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.”

Money is a Tool

ToolsAs mentioned earlier, many have taken the view that money itself is evil.  Money is simply a tool.  A tool which is neither good nor evil.  As with any tool the mechanism itself does not hold power.  Rather it is the implementation or use of the tool which holds the power; a power to do or a power to do bad.  Money is such a tool.

1 Timothy 6:10 (ESV) states, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils.”
